Collectors Meeting In Zürich

Always a pleasure to meet up with these guys.

IMG_0541 Guido is holding a very nice Alien passport from Denmark which he recently acquired. We shared our experience and collectibles. I really wish such collectors meetings could be on a more regular basis. However we manage to meet 1-2 a year. Guido has an eye for beauty. Not only the passport must be in almost perfect condition also he prefers the “Ladies” passports.

Gerhard is, as myself, a collector of German passports and has in meantime a large collection with great items. The picture below shows some of his items he displayed during our meeting. E.g. German passport 1938 issued in Yokohama, Japan and full with visas, post war German Travel Permit 1950 for boatmen valid for the Western Zones of occupied Germany, another German passport 1924 issued at the German Consulate in Batavia and finally a rare passport application card from the passport office in Hamburg, Germany. Such documents are indeed rare to find and it’s great to hold them in your own hands to review them.

Two days later I meet up with Edi which is also a Swiss collector with a broad and large passport collection. I was so curious of the two 1915 Swiss passports which Edi kindly picked up for me at an auction house. At first I thought I missed these two pretty items as I was notified very late from the auction house. Well, the pleasure was even bigger when I knew I got them. The two passports from the Canton of Schwyz have a awesome art work. Don’t you think? Quite impressive when you present them at any border control.

These three German Empire passports are extremely rare to get and I am happy I could close with these some of my collection gaps. However I still miss 8 of 26 types to complete my German Empire collection.

Edi showed me several fine items of his collection, worth to mention was a beautiful and rare “Union Francais – Indochine passport” issued 1948 in Saigon for a woman and her 2 children, a Swiss pp 1921 of a “Cantonal Police Men” in his old uniform from 1914 during the Great War “Border watch”. Awsome! Danzig pp 1944 with unusual thread binding and seal. An Italian pp 1984 with a huge load of revenues over 2 pages. And finally the Iran pp as displayed, pay attention on the stamp which says “Provisional Revolutionary And Islamic Government Of Iran”. This passport is just from the period when Shah Pahlavi reign cames to an end and Grand Ayatollah Khomeini came into power. That’s why I love personal meetings with collectors as you can see and hold such great items in your own hands.

Next meeting is just on Monday in Berlin…where I will be also on the quest of something remarkable. Let’s hope I can report about this matter after negotiations were successful.
